- That at every intersection (at least in my city) in China, there is a timer that is the colour red for how long you must be stopped for and then green for how long you can go for?
- That the word north in Chinese is "Bei" which comes from Beijing and south is "Nan" which comes from Nanjing. Beijing is the capital of the north and Nanjing is the capital of the south.
- My mind was blown

Nanjing /was/ the capital for a few years, like when the Japanese invaded, also I think it was the capital for a while in ancient times, but I guess Xi'an was for way longer.
ReplyDeleteI love their language, it's so logical! You speak of the traffic lights, which in Mandarin is "hong lv deng" (red green light) xD - awesome
Thanks for letting me know about this! The language is just beautiful. I love listening to them speak, even though I don't understand much. Sometimes, when I know what they are talking about from context, I like to learn new words from listening. It truly is a fascinating language that is so different from English!
